Highlights commitment and rigorous holistic approach to quality medicines
WASHINGTON (June 3, 2026) — The Association for Accessible Medicines today commented on a hearing held in the Senate Aging Committee:
“Older Americans depend on affordable, high-quality generic medicines every day. The Committee is right to focus on drug quality, and this discussion should be rooted in science, FDA standards, and evidence. The safety of a medicine is not defined by where it is manufactured or where the ingredients come from. Quality depends on compliance with FDA requirements, robust manufacturing controls, validated processes, testing, inspection history, and ongoing oversight.”
“AAM members are committed to maintaining the quality, safety, and effectiveness of the medicines they supply to U.S. patients. Pharmaceutical quality is not established at a single point in time or through a singular or final test. Rather, it is the result of a comprehensive system that begins with product development and continues through manufacturing, testing, distribution, and post-market monitoring.”
“AAM and its member companies stand ready to continue to work to strengthen confidence in the U.S. drug supply, support effective oversight, and ensure that patients continue to have access to the medicines they need. The United States has one of the strongest pharmaceutical regulatory systems in the world, if not the strongest. Congress should build upon that foundation by supporting policies that improve quality, sustain competition, and protect patients from both unsafe products and avoidable shortages.”
