Facts and data are important, but it takes stories to bring them to life. Our new report, Voices of Access, features patients across the country speaking about the importance of generic and biosimilar medicines in their lives. This annual publication complements our yearly generic and biosimilars savings report, which details the billions of dollars saved by America’s patients and the U.S. health care system because billions of prescriptions are being filled with safe, affordable generic medicines rather than costly brand-name drugs.
Rich 72 | Laurel, MD Rich has peace of mind thanks to the generics he takes for his high blood pressure — and spends his retirement boating on the Chesapeake Bay and playing with his grandchildren. Without access to generic medicines, I don’t know what I’d do. |

Jeni 35 | Newhall, CA Jeni is out of the hospital for pancolitis and back to hiking, rock climbing and mountain biking with her dog Sally. Biosimilars truly gave me my life back! |
|
Ariel 29 | Bloomfield, NJ Ariel’s leukemia was treated successfully and affordably with generic medicines. This standup comic celebrates: I’m a cancer thriver! |
Voices of Access highlights the impact that accessible medicines have on everyday Americans—on their health journeys, their economic well-being and their daily lives. Every story is different,
writes AAM CEO Dan Leonard in the introduction. But what unites them is the understanding that scientific innovation is important, but it is not enough. Access makes the difference between a drug that works and a drug that works for everybody.
Now it’s your turn. You can play a key role in AAM’s ongoing Voices of Access campaign to drive federal and state policies that expand access and improve health through generic and biosimilar competition.

Health care matters to us all. Medicines, whether you or a loved one take them, are essential to maintaining our health or treating an illness. AAM encourages patients like you to advocate at the federal and state level for accessible prescription drugs using the hashtag #VoicesofAccess. Your voice and your stories make a difference to policymakers and regulators.
